Certificate in Managerial Skills

Certificate in Managerial Skills

The Certificate in Managerial Skills is a modular course organised by Westminster Explained for middle level managers in the public sector.

The course aims to:

  • Equip managers with core skills for the workplace.
  • Assist in upskilling managers with a view to operating more effectively and efficiently.
  • Help managers to develop professionally for their own futures, and that of their teams, Departments or organisations.

As the course has been designed specifically for the public sector, it will respond to some of the particular learning and development needs identified by the Government as key for the sector.  Needs identified by the Professional Skills for Government agenda, and other key policies have been taken in to account when designing the course. All of our courses aim to follow the principles advocated in the Leitch review.

The course comprises eight modules, chosen from a possible ten options. Attendees are required to attend Module 1 but can choose any 7 from the remaining 9 modules. The trainees can choose those options which they think will be of most immediate benefit to them and those which will benefit them most in their career development plans. Skills needs identified in recent or forthcoming appraisals can be incorporated, as appropriate, into their choices.

Delegates on the course should read the website thoroughly as it contains important information about course content, dates for seminars and assessment dates. If you have any queries then please contact us.

Diploma and Masters Level

The Professional Certificate in Managerial Skills is the first part of a three tier professional qualification offered by the House Magazine in conjunction with Wroxton College and Fairleigh Dickinson University. The second level which is a Diploma level Certificate, and the third level, which is a Master’s Degree, will both be awarded by Fairleigh Dickinson University .

Delegates who have participated and successfully completed the CMS course (pending other university requirements being satisfied) are eligible to take the remaining two 3 credit courses, resulting in their being awarded the University’s Certificate (Diploma level) upon successful completion of the course.

The two remaining three-credit courses would be taught under the jurisdiction of the University and delivered through blended learning courses comprising on-line and 2 day weekend, or mid-week residential seminars at the University’s Wroxton College campus in Oxfordshire. This would comprise a minimum of 45 contact hours, which is a State accreditation requirement.

Delegates who wish to proceed further upon successful completion of the University Certificate (Diploma) will be eligible to take a further 18 graduate credits (6 three credit courses at 45 hours each) through a blended or on-line delivery to receive the University’s Master of Administrative Science Degree.
